A14 Closures week commencing 16th October 2017

  11th October 2017

Please find below a message from Kier who will be carrying out some work on behalf of Highways England.

We plan to complete this work overnight, starting Monday 16 until Saturday 28 October, working 8pm to 6am for ten weeknights only, weather permitting.

While work takes place over the 10 weeknights, there will be a full A14 westbound road closure and diversion in place from Junction 31 Girton interchange to Junction 23 Spittals interchange, plus a full M11 northbound road closure and signed diversion from Junction 13 at Madlingley to join the signed diversion route.

A14 through traffic will be directed west on the A428 towards St Neots, north on the A1 towards Peterborough and east on the A14 at Brampton Hut to re-join the A14 westbound at Junction 23 Spittals. M11 traffic will be directed to exit at Junction 13 Madlingley and head west on the A1303 and A428 to join the diversion route above. M11 traffic wishing to join the A14 eastbound will be directed at the A428 Hardwick Interchange east towards Cambridge.

The A14 westbound will remain open for local traffic only between Junction 31 Girton and Junction 27 Fenstanton. The A1307 Huntingdon Road, Cambridge will also be open for local traffic wishing to join the A14 westbound. Please note that if you need to drive through roadworks, please do so at 15mph with care, as this remains a live site with operatives at work.

Apologies in advance for the temporary inconvenience and local disruption experienced during these works. We will do our utmost to complete the works as quickly as possible, and where possible will complete any noisy works during the early part of each night shift.

Community Gritting Scheme

14th September 2017

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Community Gritting scheme allows local residents, as volunteers, to step in during extended periods of freezing weather to clear footways and footpaths within the village that do not form part of the County Council’s gritting program.

Following suggestions from residents, the parish recommends, to County Council, which footways and paths should be gritted by volunteers for approval. The routes are then discussed and an agreed route map is recorded. County Council insurance only covers volunteers for the agreed routes.

Roads are not included in this scheme and anyone gritting these is not insured or trained to grit these.

Any volunteers are trained by the County Council and the necessary equipment is provided.  Once trained and when completing gritting as per the procedures agreed, volunteers are covered by the County Council’s insurance.

Longstanton Parish Council has not previously taken part in this scheme but would like to see if there is anyone is the village who might like to become a community gritting volunteer and help keep designated areas of footpath clear as required.

More information on the scheme can be found on the County’s web pages at: Community Gritting

Please contact Longstanton Parish Council if you would like to volunteer for this scheme: parish.clerk@longstantonvillage.org  or 01954 782323.

A14 Additional Road Closure

Message from the A14 Upgrade Team:

Following up from our email at the weekend, the A14 eastbound between Fenstanton (J27) and Swavesey (J28) will be closed tonight (5th September), 9pm to 6am.

Last week we installed our temporary bailey bridge over the A14 near Swavesey.  This temporary bridge will allow us to move material across the A14 to build the north side of the new Swavesey junction without taking vehicles on the A14.

Whilst the structure is now in place we were not able to completely finish all of the work to make it safe for use to use, consequently we will needed further closures of the east bound carriageway only, between Fenstanton (J27) and Swavesey (J28).

Please be assured that signs will be erected on the A14 to notify drivers of this closure.

We regularly update details of closures specific to our A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon improvement scheme on our Facebook #A14C2H and Twitter @A14C2H pages. You can also find our latest posts by searching #A14C2Hclosures.

Below are our planned closures for this week;

*Wed 6th to Fri 8th*
