Reporting Non-Emergencies Online

29th January 2018

Please find below a message from Superintendent James Sutherland, Head of Contact Management and Demand for Cambridgeshire Police

Non-emergency situations can now be reported to the police online if people would rather do so than call 101.

In October last year Cambridgeshire Constabulary re-launched their website with added functionality to report non-emergencies via specially designed forms or a live webchat.

The live webchat option enables people to communicate directly with a member of staff in the control room, just as would be the case when calling 101. Online forms are processed in the same way as a call and the person reporting can expect a response within 24 hours.
Due to the high level of demand there are often queues when calling 101. Reporting online is quick, easy and free of charge.

Superintendent James Sutherland said: “In the digital age people are doing more and more online. I’m pleased that our website now has increased capability to allow people to contact us in this way.

“The system went through a thorough testing process and has been used successfully thousands of times since being introduced.

“Feedback from a recent survey suggested that some people wanted to communicate directly with a person rather than submitting an online form. The webchat function allows people to do exactly that.

“Reports submitted online are treated in the same way as when people call 101 and will receive the same outcome.”

To view the online reporting section of the constabulary’s website visit www.cambs.police.uk/report/. The live webchat function is available by clicking on the green icon on the bottom right of the page.

Airfield Road News

24th January 2018

Following their attendance at the Northstowe Community Forum on 17th January 2018, the parish office has asked for a statement to clarify what will be happening with the ‘airfield’ road in 2018.  Please see the statement from John Sisk & Son Limited, the contractor who will be building the southern access road west (due to bisect the airfield road) on behalf of Homes England (formerly Homes & Communities Agency):

At the moment our intention is to start work down there at the earliest at the start of March. This would involve installing a plant crossing with two small concrete pads on either side of the road but the road way itself would remain unchanged. Traffic would be able to pass through as normal but if we needed to cross any plant or machinery over we would temporarily stop the traffic by means of lights or a signal man. The main works for the Southern Access Road West, the road that cuts across Longstanton Road, will not be until the middle of April – this will depend on the status of the road which is to be confirmed by Cambridge County Council. If you need any more information about anything please contact me.

We will keep you updated as and when we get any further news.

A14 Road Closures Week Commencing 18th December 2017

18th December 2017

Below are details of this week’s A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon closures.  There aren’t any other closures planned until after the holidays, so this will be our last weekly parish update until the New Year.

During tonight’s A14 westbound closure we’ll be refreshing the white lines between Girton and Bar Hill. During our overnight closure last Friday we did refresh the white and black lines on the eastbound carriageway between Bar Hill and Girton.

The complete removal of the old markings from any surface is difficult without causing damage to the existing road. Making the new markings more prominent will ensure the lane markings are clearer for all road users, without the added disruption to drivers while we carry out patch repairs.

Our traffic management team will continue to monitor these markings to ensure that they are prominent and refresh them when needed. They regularly meet to review our roadworks and they’re always keen to hear feedback, especially ways our traffic management can be made safer for road users. So please do let us know if any concerns about these are raised and we’ll investigate.

This week’s A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon closures;

Mon 18 for one night
westbound Girton (J31) & Fenstanton (J27), including A1307 outbound (9pm – 6am)

Mon 18 to Thurs 21
A1 southbound between Alconbury & Brampton Hut (each night 9pm – 6am)
A1 northbound between Buckden & Brampton Hut (each night 9pm – 6am)

Our official diversion route will be signposted and you can find diversion maps on our social media pages (or just email us for additional copies).
